John Legend & The Roots- Hard Times

Unless you, I don’t know, hate good music, it was impossible not to get excited when soul crooner John Legend and The Roots officially joined forces for a collaborative album, especially when they started to release DJBooth approved records like Our Generation and Wake Up Everybody. But one crucial element was missing from those songs; Roots emcee and frontman Black Thought. Problem solved. On their new single, the only non-cover on the album, the legendary Roots crew is out in full force, with Questlove and his instrumental compatriots coming through on the production with a flawless performance and Black Thought grabbing the mic for a typically peerless verse on the back end. Throw in vocals from the aptly-named Legend, who once again proves that when he’s not singing back-up for Rick Ross he’s got some serious soul, and has apparently done his share of Spam and Oreos eating, and you’ve got pure dopeness. In case you can’t tell, I’m loving this song, and I’ve got no doubt I’ll love the supergroup’s album Wake Up when it drops September 21.
