Willow Smith - Whip My Hair
Do talented parents breed talented offspring? According to my thirty seconds of Google research, the matter is still up for debate. Whether the Will/Jada Pinkett-Smith progeny’s emergence as an artist in her own right has more to do with her inborn musical aptitude or Mom and Dad having the clout to talk business with J-Hova, though, one thing’s for damn sure: nine-year-old Roc Nation signee Willow Smith loves to “Whip [Her] Hair back and forth.” Despite the playground-appropriate subject matter, this single finds the precocious up-and-comer exhibiting swagger – and vocal abilities – well beyond her years. Over Jukebox‘s clattering instrumental, Smith shows off her pipes in larger-than-life verses, building herself up and brushing off the haters like a seasoned pro. Willow’s confidence is not to be denied, but is she destined for long-term success in the game? That, my friends, is for you to decide. Those who find themselves hair-whipping right along with Willow (or pretending, if you don’t have enough hair to whip) should keep it locked for the latest on her debut set, which has yet to receive a title or release date.
